Rechargeable Energy Storage - a critical & growing problem

At over 3 Billion cells and $10 Billion/year, the rechargeable Lithium-ion industry is still leveraging a basic energy storage cell architecture over 50 years old and accustomed to anemic improvement rates based primarily on materials enhancements, falling further and further behind the needs of modern electronics, renewable energy, and transportation. Many efforts to improve storage capacity and energy density of the antiquated cell inevitably introduce safety risks that do more harm than good.

$1 Trillion+ of markets are depending on an antiquated cell

During the next 20 years when some predict the Lithium ion market could grow to $100B(Credit Suisse 10/2009), Moore's law promises dramatic increases in computational capabilities. However it also dictates dramatic growth in energy storage requirements as power consumption grows with each generation due to power improvements lagging the performance increase. The growth in power consumption will far outpace the historical improvement rate of rechargeable Lithium ion cells.

In transportation, the existing cell architecture is not providing a realistic path to unsubsidized competitiveness vs. fossil fuels. The energy storage problem will grow becoming more and more a choke point on over a Trillion dollars/year of the worlds key transportation, computing, communications, and renewable energy markets.

ENOVIX, founded to develop the 21st century energy storage cell

ENOVIX cellUsing advanced electrochemical and material formation processes originally developed in the Semiconductor, Solar, & other non traditional battery segments, ENOVIX is revolutionizing the basic energy storage cell used in Lithium-ion and Lithium polymer rechargeable batteries. With its revolutionary '3D Wave Array™' energy storage architecture, disruptive & sustainable improvement is coming to critical areas such as energy density, safety, cycle life, and manageability of the stored energy.
